Ahead of the governorship election coming up in Edo State on the 21st day of September, 2024, the Labour Party, LP, candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata SAN has recently held a fitness work across the Benin City metropolis.
The fitness work which saw a large turnout of Obidients, LP chieftains and other supporters is the first open campaign among the 17 political parties participating in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election.
Some supporters expressed their surprise when Akpata who was rumoured to have been away from town stormed the arena and was flooded with massive ovasion which made him stepped out of his car and joined the crowd on the fitness walk, trekking from the City center to Baptist Convention Ground at Oliha axis.

Addressing the press, the LP chairman, Edo State chapter, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi said, "we are all out to show Edo people that we have a credible candidate. A candidate with integrity and respect for the people.
"Olumide Akpata is our candidate. We gave him the ticket because we trusted him. We gave him the ticket because he deserves to be the next governor of Edo State. I gave him the ticket because he can deliver the dividends of true democracy to Edo people", he said.
An LP Chairmanship candidate for Edo State September 2nd, 2023 local Government election, Hon Uyi Omorodion described Olumide Akpata as the best man for the job.
According to Uyi, "Olumide is a threat to all other candidates in the forthcoming governorship election. Take a look at his credentials, his antecedents and his leadership style, you will agree with me that Olu D is the man to look out for.
"He is on ground and he is always there with his door open to everyone irrespective of your background. You can verify his open door policy when he was the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, President.
"You see the crowd that turned out for him within the shortest notice? That is a sign that the people want him. See the true supporters of Olumide trooping out in their number without being monetized. The crowd is drown from among the Obidients movement, LP, supporters and lovers of Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata and we are going to sustain this tempo till the election is conducted and Olumide Akpata is the preferred candidate to win and he will win", he stressed.
On his part, Olumide Osaigbovo said, "we are set to put Edo State in the map of development.
"We can all attest to what LP is doing in Abia State. The transformation in Abia State within the last 10 months can be replicated in Edo State.
"Let's work together to ensure LP wins the governorship election so we can experience transformation in Edo State as a whole", he said.
