The Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr Eric Osayande, in the new year, has continued his administration's market money programme.

The market money initiative which began during the Chairman's first term has gained huge commendations across numerous quarters in Edo State, particularly in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

Leading the distribution team, the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Osamuyi Idehen, noted that the gesture aims to cushion the adverse effect faced by the market women amid harsh economic realities now prevalent in the Country.

"The local government Chairman acknowledges the hardship that now stares at everyone, he has directed that the market money be extended to your market; this is not a loan, it is for you to add up to support your trade," the Vice Chairman noted.

The market money distribution captured 50 market women in Urora market, Ward 4 and another 50 market women in St Saviour market, Ward 5. The women who were obviously excited conveyed their appreciation and prayers to the Council Chairman.

In appreciation, the Iyeki of Urora market, Mrs. Esther Obaseki, noted, "we are very grateful for this gesture, it is very timely and well appreciated; the Council Chairman is Godsent, he means well for the people of Ikpoba-Okha, he has shown that on several occasions, we will continue to support his administration, may God guide and protect him and his cabinet."

At St Saviour market, the women who welcomed the team with songs and dance were in obvious excitement, noting that the Council Chairman has fulfilled many of his electioneering promises.

One of the St Saviour market beneficiaries, Mrs Esther Umweni, applauded the Chairman for his numerous people-centred initiatives, noting that the move is first of its kind and will be remembered for a long time.

"We have never had it this good in Ikpoba-Okha, for a Council Chairman to share money to market women to help their trade; money not to be returned, money not borrowed, this is good", Umweni noted.
