A frontline rights activist and politician, Comrade Ezekiel Daniel, the Spokesperson of the Edo State Coalition of Riverine Communities, has applauded the recent appointment of General Godstime Ogidigba into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship Campaign Council, GCC, for the Edo 2024 gubernatorial election.
In a chat with LEGENDS TV, Comrade Ezekiel said it is normal to appoint people, but it is special to know who is appointed.
According to Ezekiel, "I want to use this medium to appreciate the governor of Edo State for appointing Godstime Ogidigba as a member of the Governorship Campaign Council. This is a rare privilege because anyone could have been appointed but it is special to know the worth of who is being appointed.
"As people of the Edo Riverine Communities, we cut across three local government areas, that us, Ovia South-West, Ovia North East and Ikpoba-Okha. From among these areas, General Ogidigba is the only one appointed from the riverine communities. This goes to show that the governor is noticing the good work Ogidigba is doing.
"There have been successive governments who have appointed different people from the riverine communities in Edo State, none of these appointees have thought of attracting these successive governments to construct our road. But Godstime Ogidigba, under four years or three about, has attracted the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki to construct the Udo-Nikorowa-Ofunama-Ajakurama road. That road has been a source of pain for the community dwellers in those regions.
"Some did not want this road to be constructed because of their dirty businesses, their shady deals and their illegal acts. So, they wanted to distort the progress of the job by planning to kidnap some of the workers. When any of the workers is kidnapped, others will be scared to go back to work and that will be the end of that project.
"When we got hold of that information, General Ogidigba mobilized his men of the Edo State Security Network, ESSN, to protect the workers by day and safeguard their equipment at night. Today, that road has reached over 70% completion.
"So, to me, the appointment of General Godstime Ogidigba both as Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the Governor on Water Way Security and Surveillance, and a member of the PDP GCC, is a blessing to us
"I will encourage him to do more than he has done because the result for hard work is more work", he said.
Earlier, the National President of the Coalition of Riverine Communities, Comrade Ipiteikumoh Godfrey Owei, congratulated General Ogidigba and used the medium to pray for wisdom to excel in his appointments.
According to Owei, "Ogidigba is a worthy ambassador who gets committed to any task assigned to him. He's really a great man who understands the pains of the people and knows how to ameliorate it for them.
"We are behind him even as we wish him well", he said.
The duo also used the privilege to pray for the victory for Asue Ighodalo and PDP in the forthcoming September 21st governorship election which will be held in the 18 local government areas of Edo.
