The Oke-Oroma Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State has sent an appreciation to the Governor of Edo State, Sen Monday Okpebholo, over the Governor's plan to restore the community's properties forcefully taken by the immediate past administration of Godwin Obaseki.
Thanking Sen Monday Okpebholo the Edo State Governor in a letter titled "APPRECIATION" which was co-signed by Gaius Emokpae and Monday Omorogiuwa, the Ōzukpogieva and the Community Secretary, respectively, the community described the governor as a man who match his words with action.
A part of the letter reads, "We can recall that during your campaign to our community, you promised to return all forcefully taken landed properties back to the rightful owners and immediately after your inauguration as the Governor of Edo State, you visited our community again and pronounced that a committee will be set up to investigate, return and restore the same land forcefully taken. This shows you are a man of your words and a dependable Governor."
The depth of the appreciation was expressed that, "We the people of Oke-Ōrōma Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State hereby consciously write to thank our wonderful Governor for your timely intervention on restoring our land back to us recently."
The Oke-Oroma Community used the opportunity to appeal to the Governor to hasten the committee to expedite actions towards the task before them.
The community used the means to pledge their unalloyed support to the governor.
"While we await your committee to do the needed tasks you assigned them, we must, as a people full of gratitude, appreciate you and pledge to support you and also pray that your reign as the Governor of our dear State be characterized with excessive development, incessant growth, unending peace and undaunted wonders.
"Please, kindly accept our hearty appreciation as we look forward to seeing the conclusion of this matter from your end," they said.
It will be recalled that the administration of Godwin Obaseki declared a 24 hour curfew around Obagie N'Evbuosa, Obayantor, Ugbekpen and Oke-Oroma in 2023. The purpose of the curfew was to keep any resistance from anyone away while demolishing houses and taking landed properties of both the communities and individuals.
It will also be mentioned that most of the properties forcefully destroyed were the eternal achievements of some owners.
The appreciation from the Oke-Oroma Community is an indication that the people are grateful even before the committee is set up.
