BOWFT 2023: NAWOJ HAILS REIGNING EDO QUEENS

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ Edo state chapter, has congratulated the state female team, Edo Queens over the winning of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football  Tournament, BOWFT.


The Edo Queen Football Club of Benin has defeated their Bayelsa counterparts, Bayelsa  Queens by four goals to three on penalty shootout after one all draw after regulation time at the final of the third edition of the BOWFT at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.


This year’s tournament according to the initiator of the tournament, the Edo state first lady, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, focused on addressing Gender-Based Violence in the country through football. 


She added that every year, the tournament seeks to fight against social vices ravaging the society.


The Chairperson of the women journalists in Edo state, Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan, commended the first lady for her laudable initiative and zeal in  reducing Gender Based Violence through empowering of the women and girl child through sports  to the barest minimum in the state.


While appreciating the Edo first lady for her doggedness in fighting the women's cause, she urged the women folk to reciprocate the first lady initiative with all necessary moral support.


Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan assured the first lady of the "women journalists zeal to always give adequate coverage to all her programmes."


The ceremonial kick-off at the final was performed by the First Lady of Edo State, Her Excellency, Betsy Obaseki, who expressed satisfaction on the success recorded so far in the tournament, said this year’s edition has the highest number of First Ladies watching the final game at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
