Trained journalists on Health services reportage |
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State Council has recently organized a training for members of the council on health reportage on key populations.
Declaring the training open, the chairman of the Edo NUJ, Comrade Amb Festus Alenkhe JP, FSGI, said there is need for constant training and retraining of journalists to ensure accurate reportage.
He informed the 30 participants that ISDAO in consortium partnership with SMILES Africa International Youth Development Initiative, SAIYDI, "is a key to educate the journalists in order to get them informed.

He said, "Always give the correct information to the public. So this training is to equip you with the type of correct information you are expected to disseminate.
"Other training is in the planning stage. There will be training on Safety, preventing possible fire outbreaks", he said.
Training the journalists on terminology used to avoid stigmatization on HIV/AIDS carriers, Comrade Purpose Isehienrhien said, "Key population, KP, is very important.
"KP includes but not limited to lesbians, gays, bisexuals, sex workers, Men Having Sex With Men (MSM) among others.

"Some of the problems identified with advocacy on the KP are discrimination, self withdrawal from treatment and counselling, stigmatization and inferiority complex.
"It is an offense for a partner who knows has contacted HIV not to inform his or her partner about it. It is also an offense for a partner to reveal the HIV/AIDS status to anyone else", he said.
The participants were presented certifications of participation.
