EDO COUNCIL BOSS ENCOURAGES SPORTS, CULTURE, AGRIC WITHIN STUDENTS

  



Western Boys High School has defeated Idogbo Secondary School one goal to nill at regulation time at the just-concluded Ikpoba-Okha Principal's Cup Competition 2023, at the School of Health Technology, Dumez Road, Benin City. 


The Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande was on ground to receive guests at the games.


Performing the ceremonial kick-off, representative of the Secretary to Edo State Government, Pst. Henry Okpamen, commended the initiative, urging the LG to continue to discover and develop local talents through sports and culture. 


Four teams made it to the finals on Thursday; with Edion Secondary School thrashing Niger College earlier on penalties to clinch 3rd. 


Commending the Council Chairman for his visionary leadership, Okpamen noted that the competition is timely, helping to discover and nurture talents and as as well keep young Ikpoba-Okha residents off vices. 


On his part, the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Chairman, Dr. Eric Osayande, appreciated guests for taking out time to grace the final; he commended the players and authorities of participating schools for their determination and peaceful conduct during the games. 


He said, “we are poised to continue to develop our youths with skills, the Principal's Cup is an initiative that we have discovered as one effective tool to help young people; this being the third edition, we will continue to develop on it for the good of young, talented people."


The third edition of the Ikpoba-Okha Principal's Cup Competition climaxed on Thursday; the games which began in September, had twenty teams from across public and private junior and senior secondary schools in the LGA participating.


The highest goal scorer award of the tournament went to Promise Erhunmwuse of Niger College with four goals to his name; most valuable player was awarded to Ajo Vitalis from Western Boys High School, while Uwa Torhire of Western Boys High School clinched the best goalkeeper award at the tournament. 


Joining the Council Chairman and Vice at the final were the Leader of the Ikpoba-Okha Legislative Arm, Hon. Kingsley Balogban and Councilors; Supervisory Councilors of Sports, Environment, Education, Agriculture and Works were also in attendance.


Member representing Ikpoba-Okha Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Asonsere, Secretary to Local Government, Barr. Osagie Igbinomwanhia, Heads of Department at the Council were in attendance.


Also present at the Thursday final were the former Chairman, EDSOGPADEC, Pst. Kennedy Osifo, Ikpoba-Okha PDP Chairman, Pst. Paul Osazuwa, Party leaders, youth groups, Christian Football Association, football lovers and a host of others.


Osayande has said the cultural competition, which is a twin initiative of the Principal's Cup will take-off next year.
