The Congress of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has moved a vote of implicit confidence on the current leadership of the Edo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe.

The motion came based on the convincing performance of the present leadership of the union.

The motion which was moved by Comrade Kadiri Christopher of The Reliance Chapel and seconded by Comrade Timothy Odion of AIT Chapel was unanimously adopted by the congress and commended the leadership for prioritizing welfare of members of the union.

Some members of the union used the opportunity to thank the leadership for training and retraining of journalists in the state and appealed to them to continue the good gesture.

Earlier, Edo State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists also moved an Implicit Vote of Confidence on the current leadership of the council led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe at a meeting held today at the union's secretariat in Benin city.

At an enlarged meeting which had Chairmen and Secretaries of 15 Chapels of the union in Edo State, the SEC moved the motion based on the conviction that the present State EXCO has performed unprecedentedly.

The motion which was moved by the State Information Chapel Chairman, Comrade Maureen Nwine and seconded by the chairman of Observer Chapel, Comrade Hameed Braimah said such motion became necessary due to the fact that the present leadership has performed beyond expectation.

Members of the State Executive Council of Edo NUJ said they were earlier full of doubts at the level of campaign when the present team of leadership reeled out its manifesto in 2021 due to their past experiences. But they said the current Edo NUJ leadership had surpassed the content of the manifesto adding that the leadership are still working for the welfare of Journalists.

The decision of the implicit confidence was unanimously adopted by the entire members.

The SEC members also urged the leadership to continue on the path of unity, progress and more developments for the NUJ in Edo state.
