The officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, have finally met with the families of Late Engr Augustine Izekor who was recently electrocuted to death in Evbodia community in Benin City.

In a series of meetings conveyed by the BEDC at various locations in Benin, the management team of the establishment have shown condolences and concerns and have used the opportunity to pledge their support for the families left behind.

Addressing the Izekor family at the Iyekogba Division of the Nigeria Police where the other four suspected colleagues of Late Izekor were detained, Dr Obi Obinna said, "this is a rude shock to us at the BEDC and we know it's unbearable for the family too.

"It was an accident. But we cannot rule out the fact that there were no errors. The errors are avoidable but it still occurred.

"We are very sorry over the loss and we guarantee the family that we will stand by them according to the laid down procedures of our organisation", he said.

Responding, the immediate elder brother of the deceased, Mr Friday Izekor told the management staff present that, "we have hired a private investigator who is also doing his job and have come up with some facts.

"We have been rightly informed that the incident occurred about 2pm. His colleagues ran away and later returned about 4pm to take him to the hospital around Airport Road. He was unconscious at that time and when he managed to gain consciousness, he called my younger sister about 7pm, telling her that he had an accident.

"My younger sister, Uyimwen, who was so worried rushed to the hospital where she tried to support him to survive the shock. But he couldn't make it when he gave up about 11pm", he said.

Mr Friday added that if his late brother was taken to the hospital immediately, maybe he would have survived.

In another meeting held at the corporate office of the BEDC, Dr Obinna informed the family that the insurance company had been contacted and that the daughter, Jennifer Izekor whom Late Augustine Izekor penciled as his next of kin, will get the cash sum for compensation.

Dr Obinna who is the Head, Human Capital also informed the family that either the deceased widow or any member of the family will be employed into the BEDC, stating the qualification status for employment.

After a roundtable discussion, the family however, was told to get the burial plans back to BEDC for support.

Meanwhile, those arrested and detained, have been released on bail, following the family consent to grant them bail.

Late Augustine Izekor is survived by mother, wife, three children, brothers, sisters, aunties and uncles among whom is Mr Monday Osayande of the Guardian Newspaper.
