Dangote workers kidnapped, dozens injured in Edo

The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has recently been honoured as one of  the best performing states.

It was a moment of jubilation by Edo NUJ members when the National Working Committee announced Edo State Council of the union as the Best Performing State in South-South Nigeria which is described by the union as Zone F.

Presenting the certificate of award to the Edo NUJ Chairman, Comrade Amb Festus Alenkhe, the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Chief Christopher Isiguzo said the transformation that took place in Edo NUJ under two years of the Festus Alenkhe-led administration is worth emulating at all levels.

The Award of Excellence 

Receiving the Award of Excellence at the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting recently in Abuja, Comrade Amb Festus Alenkhe JP, FSGI, was seen looking speechless as one of the attendees described Festus Alenkhe's smiles as "assurance to do more."

It will be recalled that the Edo NUJ Press Center has witnessed tremendous changes that ranges from complete overhauling of the interiors and exteriors of the administrative building, CCTV camera installation to boost security, a 24 hour power supply, uninterrupted internet facility, car park lots marking to facilitate cars parking orderly, flooring, bar rejuvenation, a first standard conference hall, facelift of the main entrance, fixing of the toilets to ensure journalists among others enjoy suitable convenience, remodelling of the multipurpose hall with seven standing air conditioners in place, the barbwire fencing of the back end of the Press Center premises, among others.

It is also very pertinent to mention that the Festus Alenkhe-led administration has also been impactful to the members of the union by organizing free medical checks and tests for journalists in the state, local and international training for journalists, assisting journalists to obtain international passports, actualizing the Journalists Intervention Team in order to intervene for any journalist stuck in security or traffic matters, attraction of the Best Investigative Awards to deserving journalists, the compendium of Edo NUJ members which has brought sanity and santity to the council, the frequent monthly congress where main issues bothering on the union are discussed, stimulates cordial relationship between the government and the union, a functional interface with traditional authorities, activation of soft loans from a new generation bank to ease journalists financial needs, among other human capacity development driven projects.

Festus Alenkhe is running a three year first tenure for the Edo NUJ and laurels are honourable being bagged incessantly.
