To commemorate women in the International Women's Day 2025, the Benbow Deck of the National Association of Seadogs, NAS, has advocated for women participation in nation building and policy making in order to strike a balance in gender affirmation.
In a street walk organized by the NAS also known as Pyrates Confraternity, women and girls were admonished not to be silent in sharing positive ideas that can lead to building a more egalitarian society.
The 2025 edition of the International Women's Day which saw members of the NAS trooped in their number to distribute materials, was tagged "WALK FOR EQUALITY RALLY".
Addressing newsmen, the Vice President of the Benbow Deck, Mr Emmanuel Umoh who spoke on behalf of the President, Mr Ibrahim Oven, said women should speak up and be positive and contribute to nation building.
According to Mr Umoh, "the role of women in nation building cannot be overemphasized. Women are really the back in nation building.
"In terms of education, the intelligence of the children depends on the wife. That tells us how important women are in the nation building", he said.
On his part, the Project Coordinator of the Benbow Deck, Mr Omotayo Fasade said, "International Women's Day is a global call to action and as a reputable association, we got to felicitate with women and to use the opportunity to call for an end to gender inequality and discrimination on women"
"Women should be given more space in government, politics and even in our homes and this is one of the things the National Association of Seadogs stands for", he said.
Another member of the association, Audu Agadaga Muhammed said, "we are out to join our voices with the women to continue to preach for equality, uplifted opportunities for women, both in politics and other endeavours they find themselves.
"We will continue to preach for the protection of the girl child, the empowerment of women and a more peaceful society", he added.
"A fair world is where women and girls are heard, valued and uplifted", was the quote appended by the association in the handbills that were distributed.
The International Women's Day is a United Nations program which holds annually on every 8th day of the month of March.
