The National Chairman of Labour Party, Barr Julius Abure has recently been inducted in to Hall of Fame of Edo Policy Roundtable, EPRT, in collaboration with Mudiame University .
The induction ceremony which had all the Who is Who in Labour Party, LP, across Nigeria in attendance took place at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral ground in Benin City .
Unveiling the Awardee, the coordinator of Edo Policy Roundtable, Dr Igberase Francis gave a detailed explanation about the formation and what Edo Policy Round Table represent .
According to him, EPRT's formation and membership is drawn from graduates of MSc and PhD and is registered under CAC with the vision to help generate workable policies that can strengthen the development of the Country.
Speaking on importance of research to the development of a society, he advised that if Labour Party is serious with it's mantra to transform governance in Nigeria, then, the party should be ready to establish a research institute that would serve as a resource organ to come up with workable policies.
Speaking at the event , Barrister Julius Abure stressed that the kind of Governor needed in the 2024 Governorship election in Edo State is the Shepherd type of Governor who will be committed to the wellbeing of his flock and also responsible in guiding them and attending to their needs.
Peter Obi on his part noted that Nigeria has no reason to be a poor country but lack leaders that can plan and implement workable policies.
“The reason why the country is failing today ,is lack of planning, and when you talk about lack of planning, you are talking about lack of implementation. We politicians, when we are campaigning, everything is sweet and good, but once we have the opportunity, we would bring out our true side and start doing the opposite".
“All I can tell any body is, there is nothing wrong with Nigeria; Nigeria is one of the best in terms of land, weather, God given resources and the people. One thing God has not given Nigeria is good leadership, if we have good leaders we would do better.
“A country like Nigeria has no reason to be poor if not because of leadership. If you compare Nigeria with the three biggest economy in Europe – Germany, Britain and France. If you compare these three countries with Nigeria in land size, they are just about 20 percent bigger than Nigeria .”
“We have leadership that are involved in waste and consumptions but no production. So, whenever you are talking of pulling the people out of poverty and creating jobs for the people , it is simple, just remove the economy from consumption to production, you create job.”
Chief Host of the event and founder, Mudiame University, Irrua, Professor S.E Eromosele, said
Nigerians are leaving the country because of poor policies, hence the need to discuss policy implementation cannot be overemphasized.
He lamented that Edo State is presently crippled, hence it needs to rise.
“It is time to rise against bad governance; move against poverty,” he added.
