The burnt Scania truck |
A detained Scania truck at the Ekiadolor Division of the Nigeria Police has recently been razed beyond recognition.
The ten tyre Scania truck was said to have had an accident at the popular Ovia River on the 15th day of May, 2023.
It was gathered that the owner of the vehicle had made several attempts to retrieve his truck from the Police Station but was said to have been denied the access. That the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Ekiadolor Divisional Headquarters, CSP Isah Hamisu was alleged to have demanded a sum of #300,000 from the said owner who was said to have become weary of the entire process.
It was revealed that the case was later transferred to the Ekiadolor Area Command for further investigation. Since then, the vehicle has remained detained.
The vehicle with registration number Lagos XB 507 MUS has been under detention for the past nine months.
The act by the Ekiadolor DPO, CSP Hamisu has strongly negated the Inspector General's superior order that no accidented vehicle should be detained after the Vehicle Inspection Officer, VIO, has inspected it.
A brother of the truck owner, Mr Chuks Ikemba, responded that "despite the several warnings from the IGP that no vehicle involved in an accident should be kept with the Police after the VIO have inspected it, the DPO and the Area Commander have chosen to disrespect the higher authority of the Police.
"Let me ask, is it the only vehicle in this station? Are there no other vehicles here? Why is it that it was only this vehicle that got burnt? I think something is fishy and it must be unravelled.
"We shall pursue justice for the owner of the vehicle. Now that the vehicle has gotten burnt, justice must be gotten for the owner by all means.
"We are using this medium to call on the Commissioner of Police, Adegboye Adegboyega to act as fast as he can in order to weed out such people from the Police," he said.
Every effort to get comments from the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Nwanbuzor Chidi proved abortive as calls put across to him was busied.
