Fake Policemen on rampage in Benin

A three man gang of suspected fake Policemen have been recently spotted in Benin City in broad daylight, extorting the unsuspected commuters.


The three suspected fake Policemen were stationed at Ikpoba Slope, very close to the Ikpoba River.


According to some eyewitnesses, a senior police officer was stacked in the gridlock caused by the nefarious act of the suspects.


An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, "we were stocked at the hold up caused by the policemen who we thought were on lawful duty. They were just three in number and were looking so shabby. So, we thought they were like the other police people who usually go about extorting money from commercial vehicles especially. We never knew they were fake".

Another eyewitness who said he was very close to the spot where the suspected fake policemen were stationed said in confidence that, "I was there seeing how the senior police officer was asking them questions. They couldn't answer him well. They saw the way he was interrogating them, they quickly ran into the Ikpoba River and swam away. I think those guys are not from Edo State".


According to a taxi driver who said he was extorted already before the ill fated activity was exposed, "they collected #200 from me. I begged them to please accept #100 from me, they refused. I obliged by giving them the money they requested. One of them was smelling like he smoked weed. He was not looking at kempt".


Two out of the three suspected fake policemen were putting on the Nigeria Police camouflage while the third person was putting on a military leaf camouflage polo top on a jeans and they were said to be having one AK-47, one pump action and a pistol.

The senior police officer that was described by eyewitnesses was later said to have taken the operational white TOYOTA HILUX vehicle suspected to belonging to the suspects to the Ikpoba Hill Area Command of the Nigeria Police.


Items recovered from the vehicle were Indian hemp, Indian hemp processor,  two cans of FEARLESS drinks, one mobile phone, two rolls of unused condoms, military camouflage and a Bible.


When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Nwanbuzor Chidi said, "the TOYOTA HILUX vehicle has been recovered by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Ikpoba Hill metropolis and investigation is going on and at the appropriate time, we will let you know the level of development".
