The General Coordinator of a religious group called, the Edo Muslim for Equity and Good Governance (EMEGG), Shiekh Sirajudeen Muhammad, has said the Governor-Elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, will make history by appointing Muslims to key positions in the incoming administration.

According to Muhammad, who spoke with newsmen in Benin City today Monday 14, October 2024, such appointments would mark a significant milestone, making Okpebholo the first Governor in the history of Edo State to achieve
a balanced representation in governance.

"If the Governor-Elect appoints Muslims to positions like Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, and other key roles, it will make him the only Governor in Edo State's history to strike such a balance in representation," Muhammad stated.

"Muslims represent about fourty percent of the population of Edo State, yet, we have never recorded such a level of inclusivity in the state’s governance."

EMEGG has been vocal about its demand for fair representation, pointing out that Muslims played a critical role in the election of Okpebholo and the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Muhammad emphasized that while the positions of Governor and Deputy Governor have been filled by Christian candidates, the spirit of equity and inclusivity now calls for Muslim representation in key decision-making roles.

"Muslims in Edo State have qualified, experienced, and dedicated individuals who are loyal to the APC and capable of making meaningful contributions to governance,"

"We are only saying, appointing them to positions like the SSG and Chief of Staff would change the narrative of governance in the state, build confidence in the Governor-Elect, and show that the APC is a party that values inclusion."

The coordinator further believes that such appointments will not only honour the Governor-Elect's campaign promises of inclusive governance but also help take Edo State to new heights of development
