Displaced person gets US PhD scholarship

Ishaku Amos, displaced from northern Nigeria, 
moulded in Edo IDP and distinguished in University of Illinois, Chicago, USA 


An internally displaced person who found his feet in the Home for the Needy, International Christian Center (popularly known as IDP Camp) has been offered a scholarship to study at a Chicago University in the United States of America.


The recipient, Mr Amos Ishaku who graduated with a first class from the Edo State University, Uzairue was offered an automatic employment by Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki in 2023.


Mr Ishaku who studied Chemical Engineering was taken to the Edo IDP Camp at a time he couldn't read, write nor identified alphabets and figures but was nurtured by the Home for the Needy and today, he has been tagged in the news as "from the displaced to the distinguished".


In a statement issued by the Coordinator of the Edo IDP Camp, Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, "we have very good news to share with you. One of those who recently graduated with first class has just been offered a fully funded scholarship to do his PhD at the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA.


"This is a clear indication that creating an enabling environment for those in need yields beautiful results.


"We humbly use this means to thank you for the support you have been given us from inception till now


"This is to let the world and our friends know that the support they are given to the orphans, widows, displaced people and the vulnerable in our center, Home for the Needy are yielding great results.


"Apart from those who graduated last year and the ones about to graduate this year, over 200 currently studying in different universities and over 150 processing their admissions into universities.


"Thank you for believing in and standing with us", he said.
