The Edo State Football Association has witnessed a sort of unprecedented milestone under the leadership of Fred Newton Erunmwunse within the past few years.
It is normal for State Football Associations to project footballing activities in their states of jurisdiction but under Fred Newton Erunmwunse as the Chairman in Edo State FA, it is not business as usual as he has taken the task beyond the round leather leadership.
FORMER DECAY
When Mr Newton took over the Edo FA, there were lots of decays he met and these decays were actually hindered football activities in the state. The state actually witnessed high-handedness of football teams and academies, State owned football teams were treated as a highest bidder affairs, it was difficult to gain admittance into the Edo FA without bribery and teams and academies were not captured in the welfare packages of Edo FA.
PRESENT STATE
Under the watch of Mr Newton, the Edo FA has witnessed and it's still witnessing friendly and leadership approaches to issues regarding the association, that is, no more high-handedness that serves as dictatorship in the association.
Footballers in Edo State are plying their football trades without any fear or threat due to the unwavering stand of the Edo FA under the superb leadership Mr Newton. The days where footballers were hired without concrete agreement in Edo State have become a thing of the past. Aldo, the era when footballers are thrown out of their various clubs due to perceived aggression, are all over. The type of undaunted sportsmanship experienced in Edo FA today can be described as the friendship of the biblical David and Jonathan.
The Fred Newton Erunmwunse-led administration has brought about discipline where footballers and club managers/owners now have concrete rapport for any eventuality to be engaged in foreign trips.
Under the same administration, rewards for footballers who distinguished themselves meritoriously now get to the without tamper.
The Fred Newton Erunmwunse-led administration has shown commitment in crisis management and resolution between aggrieved minds outside the Edo FA and members of the association.
Rolling Success
The same administration has pushed for more competitions ranging from primary schools, secondary schools, organisations/union football competitions and ex-footballers too. A case of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin having a match between home based players who passed through the club and foreign based players who also went through the club.
It will be recalled that the Fred Newton Erunmwunse-led administration sued seriously for the return of the state owned Bendel Insurance Football Club back to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) from a sort of relegation that was entered erroneously. Today, the Benin Arsenals are enjoying the cadre.
The Edo Queens Football Club is showing off the stardom in them due to the open hands of the Edo FA. The female football team has recently won again the West African Football Union group B (WAFU-B) championship 2026 in Burkina Faso. Now the gallant ladies are heading towards the Women Confederation of Africa Football (WCAF) where they are expected to show the eloquent skills of the round leather game.
Anyone campaigning, crusading, mobilizing or orchestrating the removal of the Fred Newton Erunmwunse-led administration for now, is wishing to drag the Edo FA 1000 steps back.
Therefore, the strength for calling on the resignation of the administration should be channeled to support the developmental strides of administration to further translate to an international recognition of the administration, administrators and the administrated.
